Commercial at Babcock

Your placements could take you to any part of our business. You might be managing elements of huge bids, supporting commercial contracts – including legal aspects – managing governance and compliance activities, or spotting new opportunities as part of an ambitious business development team across our Aviation, Nuclear and Marine sectors. And, once you have a handle on what we’re about and how we do things, you’ll specialise in an area that suits your strengths and ambitions.

What you'll need

  • A 2:2 (Hons) degree in Business, Economics, Law or another relevant subject
  • To be able to satisfy the MoD and our customer’s security requirements (you may also need to complete a medical assessment)
  • Our work spans a number of UK and international contracts, and within our Aviation Sector multi-lingual skills and a willingness to undertake international placements are hugely valuable to us – please highlight these within your CV and application form

What you'll get

When you’re part of the team at Babcock, we think it’s only right that you’re properly rewarded for the contribution you make and the hard work you put in. That’s why, in addition to a highly competitive salary, you can look forward to generous pension and employee share schemes, and a whole host of other flexible benefits. These include things like access to our healthcare cash plan, Wellbeing Centre and discounts on everything from gym membership and travel to retail, dining and entertainment. You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our STEM outreach and volunteering activities, which our graduates find incredibly rewarding in all sorts of other ways.

Where you'll be based

See below to find out more about the areas of our business that are offering places on our Business Operations Management programme for Autumn 2022. You can experience placements across our UK business, as well as some of our international business areas. That’s why we ask all our graduates to be flexible and willing to move during their programme.

In the civil sector, our highly trained pilots and medical staff provide aerial emergency medical services, aerial search and rescue operations and aerial firefighting missions, supported by our in-house engineering teams and operational control centres. In the defence sector, our skilled engineers, ground support staff and training instructors deliver military flying training, air station support and integrated engineering services to armies, navies and air forces in Europe.

All graduates in Aviation relocate every six months, so you need to be ready and willing to move throughout your programme.

Cavendish Nuclear is the UK’s leading nuclear services company, delivering complex projects across the nuclear lifecycle. Our work includes supporting delivery of new-build nuclear power plants, extending the working life of existing nuclear plants and safely decommissioning legacy sites. We’re looking for graduates with a wide range of qualities, including high technical skills, good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn and adapt to new circumstances.

You could be based in a number of locations, so you will need to be ready and willing to move throughout your programme. You’ll probably call Warrington, Bristol, Leicester or Newbury home, but you could also work from client sites (including nuclear power stations, Sellafield in Cumbria and Dounreay in Scotland).

Our business in Plymouth supports the UK Royal Navy in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and sustaining critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

Depending on your programme, your home base could be Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. However, some of your placements may be at other Marine sector locations.
